LIBERTY AND COMFORT FOR ALL!
The idea for Zotto arrived purely by accident. At a backyard barbecue, Zotto co-founder Shawn Keep complained to a friend (who happened to be in the foam-making business) how he was waking up with back problems. His friend suggested he try a memory foam mattress and offered to make him one. 
Shawn took him up on the offer and soon a mattress was produced and delivered. Shawn loved it but there was just one problem – it slept hot. Really hot. We’re talking sauna hot! (Not surprising since memory foam mattresses had a reputation for sleeping hot.) Shawn decided to go back to his old mattress and the memory foam mattress was gone. (But not forgotten.)
Fast forward two years and Shawn’s entreprenurial spirit was in overdrive. He and his business partner, and Zotto co-founder, Pat Papaccio had built a successful manufacturing, sales and distribution company and were eager for a new challenge. Not happy that the only way to turn a profit in their current business was by manufacturing products in China, the partners were adamant that whatever they came up with, it was going to be American made.
Shawn’s recollection of memory foam mattresses was re-kindled after reading an article about a new “bed-in-a-box” concept for memory foam mattresses sold exclusively online. Intrigued, he immediately purchased one and eagerly awaited it’s arrival. Shawn found it comfortable but he wasn’t “over the moon” with it. The proverbial seed was planted however, and as the adage goes, if you want something done right, do it yourself. So that's exactly what Shawn and Pat decided to do, setting out on a journey to create the best sleep ever.
The Zotto Mattress is Born!
Instead of focusing purely on comfort or improving upon old technology, the team at Zotto started from scratch and focused on the factors that cause poor sleep. After a year of experimenting with different ideas, technologies, materials and configurations to address these factors, the Zotto mattress was born. The partners gave several Zotto mattress prototypes to friends and family and their mission to create the best sleep ever was quickly validated – everyone loved their new Zotto!
